The beauty of this remarkable dry riesling lies in its elegance as much as in its considerable underplayed power. Medium-bodied with precisely delineated contours, this takes you on a journey through many of the top sites of the Rheingau. It needs some time in the glass to really open up, but then the interwoven stone fruit and wet-stone aromas pour from the glass. Long, very salty finish with excellent mineral energy. This great Rheingau riesling GG is a masterpiece of mineral mystery that defies any simplistic description, except, perhaps, that this is not an obviously fruity wine. The closest it gets to that are aromas of candied orange peel. In fact, the spicy and earthy complexity is what stands out most, and that’s what drives the extremely long and complete finish.
