Geisenheim Rothenberg - VDP.GROSSE LAGE

The vineyard site Geisenheimer Rothenberg is famous for its highly concentrated noble sweet rarities as well as for its powerful and weighty Riesling wines. Those wines impress with a fine fruity nose and a classy elegance. They need time to mature and have a high aging potential. In 2007 this vineyard site produced a premium Trockenbeerenauslese with 312° oechsle, the highest value achieved in Germany in this vintage.

History: Geisenheimer Rothenberg was first mentioned in 1145 by the nobleman Ruthard de Rothenberch. The naming either means "Rodenberg" in the sense of "roden", i.e. land clearing, or it refers to the red colouring of the soil. On the mountain, there is a cross made of sandstone, which was built by Count of the Empire Friedrich von Ingelheim in 1808. Its inscription says " Following old legends, there used to be mill, powered by the wind, where now these vines are".
