Harvest Report 2017

Growing Season: High temperatures from mid-February, low rainfall and warm soils resulted in an early leaf flushing, which was about 14 days before the long-term average. The frosty nights around the 20th and 24th of April caught violently the young shoots in the vineyards around Oestrich-Winkel. Yield losses of up to 80% were already recorded in some vineyards at this time. In the further course, the grapes had best weather for the flowering and the more or less dry early summer let the berries growth ideally. The heavy rainfall in August and early September and a violent storm with heavy hail caused the yields to shrink extremely around Mittelheim, Oestrich and Hallgarten.

The Riesling harvest started on September 18th, 2017 and ended on October 16th, 2017. With over 40 harvesting people, we were able to obtain the best grape material in the Grand Cru vineyards. The acid values ​​remained stable.

Must Weight:  75° Oechsle  - 220° Oechsle

Acid Content:  8,5 – 14 g/l

Duration of Harvest: September 18th – October 16th, 2017

Conclusion: The 2017 vintage is a year of extremes - extremely low yields and fantastic qualities in the steep slopes.
